How We Met

During high school, Dennis and Sylvia both attended Mr Shen's maths tutoring in Castle Hill — though you wouldn't have guessed they'd end up here. Dennis was the one at the back of the class causing a ruckus; Sylvia was the one at the front, answering every question and getting the best grades. At the time, they were worlds apart.

After high school, they went their separate ways. Years passed. And then, as fate would have it, a global pandemic brought them back together. During the COVID-19 lockdowns, Dennis and Sylvia reconnected and discovered a shared passion neither had known the other had: music.

Sylvia was an accomplished pianist, having achieved her AMus diploma. Dennis, who would be the first to admit that his 8th grade pass was somewhat less impressive, had a deep love for composing. Together, they began writing music and songs during lockdown. What started as a creative partnership quietly became something more. A friendship blossomed and in time, they realised they had fallen in love.

In early 2022, just two months into their relationship, they planned an Easter trip to the Gold Coast with friends. Then Sylvia injured her leg, and the trip fell through — but not the flight credit. Flights over Easter being what they are, the credit turned out to be just enough to fly to Bali instead. Neither of them was entirely sure how an international trip together would go this early on. It went better than either of them imagined.

The Proposal

The chemistry was undeniable. And somewhere between the temples and the rice terraces, Dennis had a quiet realisation: this was it. At the Gates of Heaven, he posed for a photo that looked, to anyone watching, like a proposal. It wasn't — not yet. But Dennis wanted that moment captured, because he already knew. Two months in, on their first trip together, he knew he would marry Sylvia. He just needed the rest of the world to catch up.

After Bali, things moved quickly. They moved in together and began travelling the world — Japan, China, Singapore, England, France, Italy, and Switzerland — building a life full of adventure, music, and each other.

In March 2025, during a trip through Europe, Dennis brought Sylvia to the summit of Glacier 3000 in the Swiss Alps. There, in the middle of a suspension bridge connecting two mountain peaks, with panoramic views stretching across the Alps under a clear sky, he asked her to marry him. Switzerland had always been Sylvia's dream proposal location, and Dennis had made sure she got exactly that, with the weather putting on a show to match. She said yes.

As Dennis and Sylvia prepare for their wedding day, they are most excited about one thing: welcoming you, the people who mean the most to them, to share in the moment and witness the beginning of their next chapter together.

Fun Facts

The most spontaneous thing we've done

We decided to go to Perisher for a ski trip on a whim. Luckily you could hire everything you needed at the ski resort!

What activities do you do together?

We love to play badminton and tennis with friends! If you play badminton or tennis, hit us up to play!

Who is the foodie?

Sylvia. She'll find an obscure restaurant down a laneway, order for both of them, and Dennis will love it. Dennis claims he isn't a foodie. He is, he just doesn't know what he likes until Sylvia orders it for him.

Who's the better cook?

Sylvia treats every meal like a MasterChef finale — it takes two hours, but it's extraordinary. Dennis can have dinner ready in ten minutes. You will not enjoy it.

Who is in charge?

Dennis is the head of the household. Sylvia is the neck that turns the head.

How do we see you more after the wedding?

We'd love to keep catching up! Come to our badminton or tennis games, join us for a food adventure, or just reach out anytime for a coffee or a walk.

Location & Travel

The wedding ceremony and reception will all be held at Swifts Mansion in Darling Point (68 Darling Point Rd, Darling Point NSW 2027).

There will likely only be a few parking spots available at Swifts or in the surrounding streets. Given the limited availability of parking, we recommend arriving by Uber or taxi, with drop-off at the porte-cochère via the northern gate on Darling Point Road. For those who prefer public transport, Edgecliff Station is approximately a 12-minute walk away and Darling Point Ferry Wharf is around 10 minutes on foot.

Our recommended hotel for those travelling is the InterContinental Double Bay. It is a five-minute drive from the venue and offers a complimentary breakfast for anyone booking under the 'D&S Wedding' block.

Q & A

For all our mates and family with loads of questions, have a squiz at our Q & A first!

When do I need to RSVP by?

Please RSVP by 10 September so we can get a proper headcount. Cheers! :)

Can I bring a plus one?

If your invitation includes a guest, absolutely! Otherwise please check with us first.

Are kids welcome?

As much as we love your little ones, we will not be including them in the ceremony or reception.

What's the weather going to be like?

October is the middle of Spring in Sydney, and temperatures are usually lovely, around 22–24°C during the day, but it does cool off slightly at night. However, the wedding reception and party will be held indoors and we will have heating available if it gets too cold. The ceremony and afternoon canapés are planned to be held outdoors on the lawn. In the event of rain, we do have wet weather options available, so there is no need to worry — the day will go ahead either way.

What's the dress code?

The dress code is Black Tie. For men, this typically means a tuxedo or dark formal suit with a tie or bow tie. For the ladies, this usually means a floor-length gown, formal midi dress, or elegant evening wear. We kindly ask guests to avoid wearing white, ivory, and cream. Otherwise, please feel free to wear colours that suit the Black Tie dress code. The ceremony and afternoon canapés will be on the lawn, so we recommend choosing footwear that will be comfortable on grass. Dinner will be indoors.

Can we take photos on our phones or cameras during the wedding?

We'd love for you to capture the memories! Feel free to snap as many photos as you like, even during the ceremony. Just please be mindful of the professional photographers, as they'll be capturing the big moments. We want you to have lots of photos, but we also want the pros to work their magic without too many distractions!

Who should I contact if I have questions?

If you've got any questions, please feel free to reach us at any time on 0452 519 968.
